BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1953 in Incheon, Yang Yong-jin studied law at Sogang University in the 1970s, and then received a master’s degree in business administration from Inha University.
In 1988, Yang took office as a co-CEO of Komipharm International, which was founded as Korea Microbiological Lab in 1972.
Yang’s company is listed on KOSDAQ since Oct. 30, 2001, and its market capitalization currently stands at about 2.15 trillion won ($1.8 billion).
As of May 16, Yang holds 29.74 percent of Komipharm International shares, making him the single largest shareholder. With his stakes being valued at more than 583.4 billion won, he is reported to be the third wealthiest person among local operators of pharmaceuticals businesses.
Yang has taken an unusual approach to running the company, serving as the chief of the company’s Korean operations, and as the chief of U.S. and Australian operations.
In July 2015, he had announced that he would step down from the Korean post, resulting in Komipharm shares plunging by about 40 percent in two days.
However, Yang soon retracted the decision and continues to hold all three posts.
