BIOGRAPHY
Cho is the third son of Hyosung chairman Cho Suck-rai, the eldest son of Cho Hong-je, founder of the company.
He is currently serving as executive vice president of Hyosung and in charge of the industrial materials and chemicals divisions. Cho is also the second largest shareholder of the company next to his older brother, Hyun-joon.
Amid the industry’s outlook that he will inherit the two major arms of the 50-year old conglomerate, Cho is also stepping up his effort to dominate the fast-growing import car industry. He is the largest shareholder of Hyosung’s Mercedes-Benz dealer arms, and oversees sales of cars from Toyota, Lexus, Ferrari and Maserati, as well.
He has been fined for tax avoidance for real estate speculation and failing to report purchases of premium condominiums in the United States.
He married Kim Yu-yeong, a Seoul National University and Julliard-educated violist, in 2009. Her father is Kim Yeo-song, president of special vehicles manufacturer Kanglim.
