[THE INVESTOR] The Tangram Factory, a Korean design company, has bagged the International Design Excellence Award for its smart rope, the first local start-up to be given this honor, the firm said on June 20.

The Tangram smart rope displays the number of jumps, which floats before the eyes, automatically counting each rotation. The rope is embedded with 23 LED lights.

IDEA is a premier international design competition sponsored annually by the Industrial Designers Society of America and judged by renowned design experts from around the world.

The design start-up previously won other three international design awards: Red Dot Award in 2016, IF Design Award and Good Design Award in 2015.

“We are pleased to win the award because it means we showed the competitiveness of Korean design start-ups,” the company said. “We will keep coming up with brilliant ideas to provide unprecedented experiences for global customers.”
