[THE INVESTOR] South Korea‘s sound equipment company JD SOUND announced Monday that it will be holding a crowdfunding campaign through the U.S. crowdfunding platform Indiegogo on July 6.

Its goal is to secure $2 million in funding for its new portable DJ device. In June 2016, JD SOUND managed to raise approximately 53 million yen ($520,667) through Makuake, a Japanese crowdfunding platform.

JD SOUND has created a portable and mobile app version of its DJ device, enabling users to create and listen to premium quality music no matter where they may be. The DJ device features not only all the hardware a user would need (four stereo jacks, mini-USB, onboard memory and embedded battery) but also a variety of software-based functions, such as play and record, sound effects, equalizer, beat sequencer and auto DJ.

The key element in minimizing the size of this device was technological convergence.

CEO Hans Kim said, “Other existing products lack the technology that would enable them to be compatible with other devices.”

He went on to add, “We spent nine years conducting software research before we finally managed to create a portable version.” Another advantage of the product is how simple and convenient it is to use.

Kim said, “With only the manual in hand, a user can get the hang of creating electronic music after only about three hours of practice.” In addition, the price is relatively low compared to other devices in the same category.

JD SOUND’s portable DJ device has shown that it is a strong contender in the global market, based on its active export to numerous regions around the world, including the U.S., U.K., Japan, South America, and Southeast Asia. In particular, based on it great potential for use in music education, the device will soon be supplied to an educational institution in the U.S. Kim said, “On a recent visit to Silicon Valley, the employee of a global enterprise there told me that JD SOUND’s technology is superior to that of his own company.”
