[THE INVESTOR] South Korean conglomerate CJ Group said on Oct. 17 it will host a PGA Tour event in October next year.

It will be the first regular PGA Tour competition to be held in South Korea. The country has previously held events sanctioned by the PGA Tour, including last year‘s Presidents Cup, but never a tour event. The CJ event will be part of the 2017-2018 PGA Tour season.

The official signing ceremony between CJ and the PGA Tour will be held in Seoul on Monday, and further details, including the tournament’s full name and schedule, will be announced then.

CJ had said in late September that it was in talks with the PGA Tour about hosting an event, and that Nine Bridges on Jejudo island, a course operated by CJ, was a potential venue.

Nine Bridges is the first South Korean course to make Golf Magazine‘s Top 100 Courses in the world rankings and hosted the first LPGA Tour event in the country in 2002.

The 2016-2017 season got under way with the Safeway Open last weekend in California. There will be 47 events, and not counting the national championships of Britain and Canada, there are only four non-U.S. hosts -- Malaysia, China, Mexico and Puerto Rico.

CJ will join the automobile giant Hyundai Motor as the Korean corporate sponsors on the tour. Hyundai has been a title sponsor for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions since 2011. For 10 years starting in 2017, it will sponsor the Genesis Open in Los Angeles.
