[THE INVESTOR] The Michelin Red Guide has been launched in Seoul this year.

This makes Korea the 28th country where the European culinary reference guide has been issued and the fourth among Asian countries.

A total of 24 restaurants were listed in the guide, according to Michelin Korea on Nov. 7 at a press conference.

Among them, 19 were endowed with one star, three restaurants with two stars and two with three stars.

The three-star restaurants are The GAON and La Yeon. The GAON is located at Horim Art Center in Shinsa-dong of southern Seoul, while La Yeon is run by Shilla Hotel in downtown Seoul.

The economic impact of receiving Michelin stars remain mixed, according to industry watchers. Some restaurants benefit from more reservations, while other suffer setbacks, mainly as customers can be led to associate the awarded restaurants with pricey menus.
