[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics is expected to unveil its first dual-load washing machine at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, possibly to mimic its crosstown rival LG Electronics' success in the brand new segment.
According to Korea Economic Daily on Dec. 5, the Korean tech giant plans to unveil the new product that combines front- and top-loading washing machines during the world’s largest electronics trade show.
LG Electronics' dual-load washer Twin Wash |
In July last year, LG launched the industry’s first dual-load washing machine, called Twin Wash, which allows users to wash two loads of laundry simultaneously or choose one depending on the load and purpose.
Despite the high price worth more than 2 million won (US$1,700), the premium washer has become a top-seller in the US front-load washing market this year.
While the LG Twin Wash has a small, top-loading washer that fits under most LG front loaders, the Samsung model is expected to come as an all-in-one machine at a cheaper price tag, the report said.
“With Samsung’s entry, the dual-load system could become a new standard in the global washer market,” the report added, saying Samsung and LG dominate more than half the front-load washer sales in the US.
