[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics on Dec. 7 unveiled a new glossy-black “Black Pearl” version of its flagship Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone.

The new variant comes in a 128GB model only with a price tag of 1.01 million won (US$864).

Local telecom carriers plan to start selling the model from Dec. 9. Its global launch schedule has yet been revealed.

With the latest launch, the Korean tech giant hopes to speed up the return rate of the discontinued Galaxy Note 7 that stands at about 70 percent.

Samsung has been introducing new hues of the Galaxy S7 to fill up sales loss following the discontinuation of the bigger-screen Note sibling.

Its color strategy, coupled with its generous cash benefits, is boosting demand for the nine-month-old Galaxy S7 over the brand new iPhone 7 on its home turf.

Together with the “Onyx Black” with a matte finish, the company aims to take on the hot-selling variants of Apple’s iPhone 7 -- the shiny “Jet Black” and the “Matte Black.”

Since the launch of the blue-shade “Coral Blue” version on Nov. 11, the Galaxy S7 sales have soared to a daily 15,000 units here.
