GM Korea, Ford Korea to recall more than 9,000 cars
[THE INVESTOR] More than 9,000 cars sold by GM Korea and Ford Sales & Service Korea will be recalled due to mechanical problems, the Transport Ministry said on Dec. 21.
GM Korea, the South Korean unit of US carmaker General Motors, will recall 4,330 units of its minitruck Labo and 4,202 Damas minivans produced between Nov. 24, 2015 and Nov. 21, 2016, due to defective fuses that could interrupt fuel injection, causing the car to lose power, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said. Free repair services are available from Wednesday at GM Korea service centers.
Ford Korea, the local distributor of Ford vehicles, will recall 489 units of Explorer SUVs. The owners of this model, manufactured between Jan. 17, 2014 and May 31, 2014, will be eligible for free repair services from Dec. 30. Those who have already fixed the problem at their own expense can have the costs reimbursed.
The ministry said the toe link in the rear suspension of the vehicle may not have been welded properly, which might cause it to break. If this happens, the driver may lose control of the vehicle, which in turn could lead to accidents, it added.
