Samsung chairman’s wife buys US$5m mansion in Hawaii

[THE INVESTOR] Hong Ra-hee, bedridden Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Kun-hee's wife, has purchased a US$5-million house in Hawaii in June this year, according news reports on Dec. 23.

Hong bought the mansion built on 1,756-square-meter land, located in the Kukio Golf and Beach Club, an upscale, exclusive residential community fitted with golf courses and resorts, according to online new outlet Sunday Journal.

This is not her first real estate purchase in Hawaii The ailing Samsung chairman’s wife purchased a US$895,000 land, measuring 1,978.9 square meters, in the same residential area in April 2014. No building has been built on the property.

It is well known that Hawaii is one of the favorite vacation destinations for Samsung’s owner family, and Samsung Chairman Lee, who suffered from lymphoma, used to spend winters on the island every year.

The Samsung chairman has been hospitalized since May 2014 following a heart attack.
