[THE INVESTOR] South Korea’s top display maker LG Display has signed a supply deal for its organic light-emitting diode display panels for TVs with Japanese electronics giant Sony, according to industry sources on Jan. 2.

The Korean display firm will start supplying the OLED display panels from the second quarter this year while Sony will roll out its own OLED TVs from the third quarter.

The supply volume is said to stand at 100,000 sheets per year -- relatively small compared to 100,000 sheets per quarter supplied to LG Electronics.

Aiming to expand the OLED TV segment, LG Electronics is expected to roll out 200,000 OLED TV units per quarter this year.

“The display maker will likely benefit from the growth of the OLED TV market this year, and more so if other TV makers jump into the sector,” an industry official said.
