[THE INVESTOR] Hyundai Motor is teaming up with Google to add voice control function for its vehicles.

Hyundai will be offering the first demonstration of integrating Google’s voice-activated speaker Google Home into its vehicle on Jan. 4 (local time) in Las Vegas, prior to the Consumer Electronics Show that will kick off the following day.

The new Google’s voice function will be managed via Hyundai’s existing Blue Link telematics app. This means, the users can simply talk to their Google Home to send commands to their vehicle, such as to start the car, unlock the doors, set up the temperature or ask for directions via Google Map. The drivers can also start or stop the charging of electric vehicles such as Hyundai’s Ioniq.

“Our customers are finding smart home integrations like the one we are showcasing with Google Home to be very useful and convenient,” said Manish Mehrotra, director of digital business planning and connected operations at Hyundai Motor America, in a statement

The automaker is planning to add more features before officially introducing the service to the general public. Hyundai, however, has not revealed a more specific time frame for when the function will be available.

The Google Home function will first be exclusively available in the US.
