[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics is expected to launch its upcoming flagship smartphone Galaxy S8 in April, with the first shipment of about 10 million units, local news outlet ETnews reported on Jan. 5.

“Suppliers have been requested to start supplying parts for the Galaxy S8 from February,” an official of a local supplier was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

During the initial production stage, the tech giant will roll out 5 million units of the phone each month, the source added.

Some of the main parts suppliers -- including camera lens firms Sekonix, antenna producer Amotech and charger maker RFTech -- are said to have offered a small batch of components to Samsung for the phone’s final testing in January.

“Shipments by secondary suppliers are expected to start from April,” another source told The Investor on condition of anonymity.
