South Korea’s Il Dong Pharmaceutical has given an impetus to the online drug retail business by launching a wholly owned subsidiary for the purpose, the company said on Jan. 10.
The new entity, Il Dong E Commerce, will be in charge of online platform-based retail business including its online shopping mall Il Dong Shop slated to open on Jan. 23.

Il Dong E Commerce plans to expand the platform to an open market, offering direct sales and purchases between consumers and suppliers.
“By reducing shopping time via the new online store, salespeople can focus on improving customer service while our clients (pharmacists) will be able to spend more time on operating their drug stores and counseling patients,” said Kim Won-rang, CEO of Il Dong E Commerce.
Il Dong is not the only Korean drug maker seeking to bolster its online presence.
Bigger peers like Hanmi Pharmaceutical, Daewoong Pharm and Boryung Pharmaceutical have also launched their own branded online stores for quicker access to their products and retailing cost reduction.
