THE INVESTOR] South Korean stocks opened slightly lower on Jan. 18 following overnight losses on Wall Street.
The benchmark KOSPI fell 1.46 points, or 0.07 percent, to 2,070.41 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
In New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 58.96 points, or 0.30 percent, to 19,826.77.
Market leader
Samsung Electronics gained 0.87 percent and global chipmaker SK hynix was off 0.20 percent.
Automaker
Hyundai Motor also shed 0.98 percent, with state-run utility firm Korea Electric Power Corp. declining 0.68 percent.
The South Korean currency was trading at 1,163.75 won against the US dollar, up 10.75 won from the previous session’s close.
