[THE INVESTOR] Furniture retailer Ikea has set up a corporation in Korea in preparation to build its first distribution center here, according to the company on Jan. 18.

The company established a corporation called Ikea Distribution Services Korea effective Jan. 3, according to local news reports. The corporation is the first step to creating a distribution center here, a spokeswoman for Ikea confirmed, although no details of the potential center or time frame for the construction have been confirmed.

Currently, most of the products at Ikea’s store in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province, are filled through a distribution center in China, run by Ikea Distribution Services Asia Pacific in Shanghai.

Ikea is preparing to open additional stores in Korea, including one in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, which is slated to open later this year.
