[THE INVESTOR] The menu price list at McDonald’s outlets in Korea has increased by 10 percent starting Jan. 26.

The Korean unit of the American fast food outlet noted this was necessitated by rising operating costs.

“We have decided to raise prices due to the increase in minimum wages, rental fees and other general expenses,” the company said.

The prices of 24 items -- including 12 set menus, two deserts and six types of hamburgers -- will rise by up to 400 won (US$0.35).

It is the second time for the fast food chain to raise prices since last February. Other fast food outlets such as Burger King and Lotteria also raised their prices following McDonald’s move last year.

Its competitors, however, do not have plans to increase prices this time for now, according to local reports.
