[THE INVESTOR] The number of stay-at-home husbands or fathers reached a six-year high last year, according to Statistics Korea.

A total of 161,000 men took on child care and homemaking full-time in 2016, the most since 2010.

After having peaked in 2010, the figure had steadily fallen to 130,000 in 2014. It rebounded to 150,000 in 2015.

Of the 161,000 men, 154,000 were staying home for housekeeping, while 7,000 were in charge of takin gcare of children.

The increase indicates changing perception of gender sereotypes, as more women continue to work outside and taking on the breadwinning roles. The number of stay-at-home housewives in comparison has been dropping steadily, reaching 7.04 million on 2016.
