[GRAPHIC NEWS] Readymade food market expands

[THE INVESTOR] The size of the readymade food market ballooned over the past five years due to a rise in double income families and single households, the government data showed on Feb. 6.

The growth was particularly marked among the lunchbox products sold at convenience stores along with fresh food items such as fruits that can be consumed without having to wash them.

The size of the lunchbox market for convenience stores rose by 70.4 percent at a size of 139.2 billion won as of 2015. 

The data also showed that men, rather than women, those in their 40s rather than 20s or 30s and singles rather than married individuals tend to purchase readymade food products.
