151 Samsung employees earn over W78m monthly pay

[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics has the largest number of salaried workers drawing over 78 million won (US$67,900) monthly pay, data showed on Feb. 12.

According to the National Health Insurance Service data disclosed by Rep. Kim Myung-yeon of the Saenuri Party, the number of salaried workers paying the highest monthly national health insurance payments stood at 3,403 in December 2016. The highest monthly national health insurance payment is 2.39 million won, which is levied on those with monthly income exceeding 78.1 million won. 




These individuals, whose annual salaries come to a minimum of 931 million won, were spread across 2,621 organizations. Of these, Samsung Electronics had the largest number with 151, followed by the law firm Kim & Chang with 119. In 2013, Kim & Chang ranked top with 148, followed by Samsung Electronics where 62 salaries workers were paying the highest possible national health insurance fee.

By organization, 20 had six or more workers falling into the category. Of these, 17 were affiliates of major conglomerates, law and accounting firms, financial institutions, and three were breweries belonging to the Seoul Takju Manufacturers Association, which produces traditional rice wine makgeolli.
