[THE INVESTOR] More than a quarter of lawyers operating own firms generate less than 4 million won (US$3,500) monthly revenue, National Tax Service data showed on Feb. 15.

According to the NTS report, about 1,100 or 25.8 percent of lawyers running their own firms generate less than 4 million won monthly revenue. The report also showed that the top 10 percent of lawyers operating own firms were responsible for nearly 70 percent of revenues generated by such individuals last year.

The NTS’ annual report showed that 33,000 professionals such as lawyers, accountants and patent attorneys were running their own businesses in 2016. Of these, 23.3 percent or 7,800 individuals raised less than 48 million won annual revenue.

In contrast, the top 10 percent accounted for 41 percent of the combined revenues.

According to the report, 3,400 individuals generated 3.2 trillion won revenue in 2016. The total for professionals operating their own businesses came to 7.8 trillion won.
