[THE INVESTOR] Hyundai Motor Group Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun is planning to attend the Geneva Auto Show this year starting March 7, in an attempt to further accelerate the carmaker’s global expansion.

Chung will visit the Swiss city to oversee Hyundai’s presence at the auto show as it debuts line of green cars. The heir-apparent, however, is not planning on speaking at any public or press events at the annual motor show.

At the auto show in its 87th year, South Korea’s largest automaker is planning to showcase 18 cars, including the next generation fuel-cell concept car to the public for the first time, ahead of the car’s planned debut at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics next year.

Hyundai said it will unveil the new i30 wagon as well, which will be sold primarily in Europe.

Hyundai’s smaller corporate cousin Kia Motors plans to introduce 16 cars at the show, including the plug-in hybrid version of its Niro compact SUV for the first time, ahead of rolling the model in the US and Europe during the second half of this year.

The PHEV version of the K5 sports wagon will also be appearing at the show, according to Kia.

Earlier in January, Chung attended the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, to give presentations about the automaker’s self-driving, green and connected car technologies.

He also appeared at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in end-January, and met with politicians and business leaders from around the world to discuss key issues in the automobile industry such as self-driving vehicles.
