Foreigner investors hold all-time high stocks in Feb.

[THE INVESTOR] Foreigners’ stock holdings in South Korea reached an all-time high last month, data showed on March 7.

According to the Financial Supervisory Service, they bought a net 658 billion won (US$570 million) worth of listed stocks here during the month.

The value of stocks owned by foreigners rose to a record 503.4 trillion won as of the end of February, 31.8 percent of the total market capitalization of the companies listed on the Seoul bourse.

“Overseas investors continued purchases since last year, pushing up their holdings to a record high,” the FSS said.

By nationality, American investors bought a net 2.1 trillion won of local stocks, in February. Those based in the Cayman Islands and Luxembourg also were net-buyers with 295 billion won and 284 billion won, respectively.

But Saudi Arabian and Singaporean traders sold a net 1 trillion won and 695 billion won worth of shares, respectively. British traders were also net-sellers with 367 billion won.
