Samsung increases lead in global NAND market

[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics increased its share in the global market for NAND flash memory chips in the fourth quarter last year, according to market data on March 8.

Samsung’s global share rose to 37.1 percent in the fourth quarter, compared to 36.6 percent a quarter earlier, the data by market tracker DRAMeXchange showed. Samsung’s fourth-quarter sales of NAND chips jumped 19.5 percent on quarter to US$4.4 billion.

Japan’s Toshiba saw its global share fall to 18.3 percent for the fourth quarter, from 19.8 percent a quarter ago. Western Digital came third with a share of 17.7 percent, followed by Micron Technology with 10.6 percent and SK hynix with 9.6 percent.
