Chicken prices soar to record high
[THE INVESTOR] The price of chicken reached a record high, since relevant data has been gathered from 1987, on Mar. 6, in the aftermath of bird flu outbreak.
The Korea Broiler Council said the price of chicken per kilogram reached 2,690 won ($2.30), up 59.2 percent on-year. The price is expected to further rise when the meat reaches retailers with additional costs, including of logistics.
Due to the outbreak of bird flu in mid-November last year, about half of some 1,500 chicken farms nationwide could not bring in new chickens to breed.
