[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics on March 21 showcased its latest line-up of televisions powered by quantum dot technology.

During the showcase event held in Seoul, Samsung introduced the Q8 and Q7 series of QLED TVs in South Korea. Samsung already started sales in the United States, with the models expected to reach more countries down the road.

“TVs must provide wider experiences compared to previous TVs. The QLED TVs will redefine the traditional concept of TV,” said Kim Hyun-suk, who heads Samsung’s display business.

Samsung said it has made installation of the TVs much easier by adopting transparent cables. The Q8 will come with a metal-based frame, adding to its unique design. Other smart features include voice recognition, where users can check out titles of music aired on TV.

The 65-inch and 55-inch Q8 TVs will come with a price tag of 7.04 million won (US$6,312) and 4.85 million won, respectively. The curved 65-inch and 55-inch Q7 TV will be sold at 6.04 million won and 4.15 million won each. Other models, such as the Q9 series, will hit shelves starting April.
