[THE INVESTOR] Anand Mahindra, chairman of Mahindra Group, which owns South Korean automaker SsangYong Motor, plans to visit Korea next week to attend the upcoming Seoul Motor Show.

“He is planning to come to Korea for the motor show but the trip hasn’t been confirmed yet,” a SsangYong Motor spokesperson told The Investor on March 22.

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra (third from left) visits SsangYong Motor`s assembly plant in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, in 2015 during his trip to Korea.

His visit comes at a high point for SsangYong that will hold the world premiere of its new premium large SUV, known by the codename Y400, at the biennial motor show that kicks off on March 30.

Pawan Goenka, executive director of Mahindra & Mahindra, is expected to accompany the chairman to celebrate the car’s highly anticipated debut.

The last time Mahindra visited Korea was in 2015 when SsangYong unveiled its popular compact Tivoli SUV in Seoul.

The carmaker that reported profits last year for the first time in nine years is betting big on the new flagship SUV to continue its recent sales momentum at home and abroad.
