[THE INVESTOR] One in five South Korean companies will cancel or postpone hiring plans for the first half of the year, survey showed on March 27.

In a survey conducted by the job portal Saramin that asked 321 human resource managers, 21.8 percent said that the first-half hiring will be canceled or postponed due to adverse conditions.

The most commonly cited reason was that their company was facing adverse conditions, followed by instabilities in the relevant industry.

The survey also revealed that a significant number of companies are planning to roll out restructuring measures. The survey revealed that 12.8 percent of the companies were planning restructuring, with an average workforce reduction of 18 percent.

Of these, about a third said that the measures will be executed during the second half of the year, while 26.8 percent and 14.6 percent picked first and third quarters, respectively.
