[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics said on April 6 that will be funding 40 research projects in the first half of this year.
Since 2013, the Korean tech giant has operated a program that offers funds for research projects in three key fields -- basic science, material technology and information and communications technology.
Samsung plans to allocate a combined 1.5 trillion won (US$1.30 billion) during the 10-year program. So far, the company has supported 312 projects.
The newly designated projects include research into maintaining a healthy brain as people get older, which is being conducted by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
