[THE INVESTOR] Hyundai Motor and
Kia Motors will voluntarily recall more than 170,000 vehicles in Korea, according to the Transport Ministry on April 7.
The carmakers, will examine the engines of 171,348 units the Grandeur, Sonata, K7, K5 and Sportage starting on May 22, the ministry said in a statement.
The engine subject to the potential recalls is Hyundai’s Theta II GDI manufactured before Aug. 2013. Car owners are required to visit designated repair and service centers to determine if they qualify for a part replacement, Hyundai Motor said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Hyundai and Kia may also have to conduct similar recalls for up to 1.3 million cars with the Theta II engines, Hyundai officials said.
