[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electro-Mechanics said on May 15 that it has conducted an annual executive reshuffle, the latest of its kind among Samsung Group affiliates.

The company promoted five executives, including Ha Sang-rok, who was named as an executive vice president.

“The reshuffle is in line with the firm’s efforts to beef up its R&D capability and global business expansion,” the company said in a statement.
Starting from its crown jewel Samsung Electronics last week, affiliates have been announcing executive reshuffles which were delayed since December due to Samsung Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong’s involvement in an influence peddling scandal surrounding former President Park Geun-hye.

In its belated executive reshuffle, Samsung Electronics promoted a total of 96 at its three business divisions -- mobile, home entertainment and display and semiconductors.

The number of newly promoted executives has been decreasing each year -- 227 in 2013, 165 in 2014, and 135 in 2015.

The company also set up an independent foundry business unit that focuses on manufacturing chips for outside clients. The business used to operate under the System LSI, or non-memory, business unit.

Following the tech giant, its subsidiary Samsung Display announced promotions for 11 executives last week.

Other Samsung Group affiliates, such as Samsung SDI, will announce promotions and appointments of new executives from this week.
