[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics said on June 13 that it would hold a biannual global strategy meeting on June 27-28, where the firm’s top executives will discuss business strategies for the second half.

Executives from Samsung’s three main business divisions -- electronic parts, mobile, and home appliance -- will join the event, which will be held simultaneously at the firm’s headquarters in Suwon, and two complexes in Giheung and Hwaseong.

“Only heads of the firm’s global offices and key executives will participate in the meetings to mainly discuss sales strategies,” a Samsung official was quoted by ChosunBiz as saying.

“More number of executives, around 400, will take part in the December meeting where they will discuss core issues and corporate strategies for next year.”

As usual, a series of meetings for the two-day event will be presided by Kwon Oh-hyun, Yoon Book-keun, and Shin Jong-kyun who respectively head the electronic parts, consumer electronics and mobile divisions.

Those belonging to the mobile division, in particular, will likely review sales of the Galaxy S8, which hit the global markets in April, and establish marketing strategies for the upcoming Galaxy Note 8.

The Samsung executives will also try to look for ways to boost Samsung’s profit margin. Although the tech giant tops the global smartphone market in terms of revenue, its profit margin is much lower than that of its rival Apple.

In the first quarter, Apple earned US$10.1 billion in operating profit, accounting for 83 percent of the entire profits in the smartphone segment, according to research firm Strategy Analytics. Samsung took home 12.9 percent of the global smartphone operating profit by posting US$1.57 billion operating profit during the same period.
