Kia Motors said on June 14 they will help their parts suppliers in research and development activities.
On June 13, the two carmakers met with 138 key component suppliers to strengthen their partnership for mutual growth, Hyundai said in a statement.
Hyundai and Kia have held the “Tech Day” event every year since 2006 to help their subcontractors improve their R&D capabilities and have them provide the “quality” components for their next-generation vehicles, it said.
The next-generation vehicles include connected cars, autonomous cars and environment friendly cars, which all require high-end technologies.
Early this year, the carmakers began to temporarily send the “residence engineer” to their suppliers to deliver consulting services and implement quality control on parts, the statement said.
