[THE INVESTOR] A fourth-grade elementary school student on June 15 was killed by a bus while walking on a one-way street in a kid-zone in Chungju, North Chungcheong Province.

The boy was fatally hit while heading home from school in the school zone, which did not have a proper side walk.

The bus driver pleaded not guilty saying he was not aware of the accident, but was arrested.

“I did not know that I hit someone. There were six or seven passengers in the bus when the accident happened, but they did not tell me anything,” said the bus driver.

According to the surveillance camera at the site, witnesses gathered around the child right after the accident and tried to stop the bus from leaving, but failed.

The black box in the bus, which can support the bus driver’s argument, was erased.

Police charged the driver for hit-and–run and have requested the National Forensic Service to restore the black box data.

“Once the black box has been restored, we will be able to check the bus driver’s facial expression when the accident happened,” the police said.
