[THE INVESTOR] Mercedes-Benz Korea, the No. 1 importer of automobiles in Korea, sold 7,783 units in June, breaking its own monthly record of 6,842 units in January. Mercedes-Benz also became the first foreign carmaker to sell more than 7,000 cars a month, while its E300 4MATIC topped the list of best-selling foreign car models by selling 1,080 units, industry sources said on July 7.

BMW, which beat Benz in sales for April and May, ranked No. 2 by selling 5,510 units. The two German brands have been fierce competitors in the Korean market. Benz beat BMW between January and March, but BMW took away the crown from April to May.
The overall number of imported cars registered in June increased 22.6 percent to 23,755 units from the previous month. In the first half of this year 118,152 foreign cars were sold in Korea, which is 1.2 percent more than the same period of 2016.
