[THE INVESTOR] A pregnant Korean customer has alleged that she was served a fruit beverage that included plastic pieces at a Starbucks outlet which almost forced her to get an abortion.

She posted a blog on July 24 titled “How I almost got an abortion at Starbucks” which quickly went viral.

The woman who is 35 weeks pregnant said her husband purchased a “mango-banana blend” drink that was mixed with plastic pieces. Upon taking the first sip, she immediately noticed something peculiar and spat out three pieces. Her husband complained to the manager, who tried to diffuse the situation by offering a refund.

He opened the container and showed all of the plastic pieces floating around, but was told that it could have been a trivial mistake of shredding a plastic cup inside the blender.

“I acknowledge that there is always room for human error. However, considering the severity of the situation, Starbucks’ nonchalant attitude is unacceptable,” he said.

Starbucks released an official statement on July 25 stating that the incident has been referred to the headquarters and discussions are on to resolve the situation.
