[THE INVESTOR] McDonald’s, embroiled in a controversy over alleged undercooked hamburger patties, has filed a court injunction seeking to ban the disclosure of the result of a consumer agency’s probe, the agency said on Aug. 9.

The Korea Consumer Agency planned to reveal the result of its investigation of hygiene conditions of hamburger chain stores in Korea on the day but canceled the plan due to the hamburger chain’s injunction filed a day before.

The agency launched the investigation after a number of local consumers filed complaints against McDonald’s, claiming they suffered foodborne diseases after eating its hamburgers.

The agency has allegedly found no enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli, known to cause hemolytic-uremic syndrome, in six local fast-food chains, including McDonald’s, and five convenience stores. But the agency found Staphylococcus aureus above the standard level in one hamburger from McDonald’s.

But the fast-food chain claimed the agency’s probe failed to meet requirements in the course of transferring the hamburger to the test lab. The court is scheduled to deliver its ruling on Aug. 10.
