[THE INVESTOR] LG Household and Health Care on Aug. 29 said it has started a subscription-based beauty box service Grooming Box for male customers as part of efforts to diversify retail channels.

For the brand new service, the LG affiliate has teamed up with Stripes, a local subscription-based apparel service provider and the distribution partner. The firm acquired a 4.9 percent stake in Stripe for 1 billion won (US$887,784) in May.

The company said it is targeting men only to differentiate itself from existing popular services like Memebox and Glossybox that mostly appeal to female customers.

“We do not have any plans to expand our service for women,” an LG official told The Investor.

The company said the product selection will be based on Stripes’ database of 70,000 male customers. The company’s male cosmetic brand Gentology products will be offered at much cheaper prices than offline, while those of other households brands such On the Body and Perioe also will be included in the box.
