[THE INVESTOR] The SPC Group, Korea’s leading food manufacturer and distributor, plans to expand its Paris Baguette outlets fivefold to 300 stores in the US by end-2020, according to media reports on Aug. 30.

The ambitious plan comes after SPC Chairman Hur Young-in met with Ed Royce, chairman of the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and US Congressman Ami Bera at the Seoul headquarters.

Both the congressmen, who are co-chairs of the Korea Caucus, visited the SPC headquarters to promote economic cooperation between Korea and the US. In a statement Royce expressed his optimism about Paris Baguette as the bakery cafe franchise has contributed significantly to job creation by employing 1,500 people in US alone.

SPC Group established a local subsidiary in California in 2002 and opened its first Paris Baguette outlet in Los Angeles in 2005. Currently the company has 57 stores in California and New York with annual sales reaching US$ 100 million in 2016.
