[THE INVESTOR] AVCJ is gearing up to host the Korea edition of AVCJ Private Equity and Venture Forum, cited as the most influential and largest gathering of private equity and venture professionals in Asia.

The 2017 AVCJ Forum Korea will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul on Sept. 7, bringing together more than 250 professional investors.

The key agenda focuses on emerging investment opportunities in Korea, a standout market filled with both mid- and large-cap firms, as the chaebol are being pushed to undergo reforms.

Forum organizers say foreign investors are paying keen attention on the new Moon Jae-in government’s big push on chaebol reforms and related regulatory changes that would create plentiful investment opportunities for private equity firms around the world.

According to Bloomberg, a total of 693 M&A deals were sealed in Korea in the first half of this year, with the total transaction volume surging 30 percent to US$38.8 billion from a year ago.

Another area of focus will be the resurgent venture capital market. Strong tech capabilities, a massive pool of innovative entrepreneurs and solid government support are reshaping the nation’s startup scene. Panel discussions, to be attended by top startup accelerators and venture capital firms, will look into winning strategies in the burgeoning market.

The Seoul event’s headline speakers include Jeff Diehl, managing partner and head of investments of Adams Street Partners, and Ravi Thakran, chairman and managing partner of L Catterton, the private equity firm owned by French fashion giant LVMH.

Among some of the other participants are Nicholas Bloy, co-founder and managing partner of Navis Capital Partners; Michael Choi, senior deputy director of Global M&A Center at KOTRA; Steve Gross, executive director of Maquarie Infrastructure & Real Assets; and Jang Dong-hun, chief investment officer of Public Officials Benefit Association.

Asia Venture Capital Journal, an Acuris company, holds regional events traveling to key Asian cities every year ahead of the year-end grand gathering that celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

The Investor, an in-house startup of The Korea Herald and the nation’s only English news service catering especially to professional investors, is an official media partner for the AVCJ Korea forum.
