[THE INVESTOR] Korea's leading display maker LG Display fell behind its Chinese rival in shipments of LCD panels sized 9 inches or wider in August, industry data showed on Oct. 1.

According to the data compiled by IHS Markit, China-based BOE Technology Group sold 13 million units of panels in the segment in August, versus 11.6 million units sold by LG Display.

The global shipment of panels sized 9 inches or bigger came to 62 million units in the month, up 6.6 percent from July.

Taiwan-based Innolux Corp. followed with 10.02 million units, and Samsung Display Co. posted 5.64 million units.

Industry watchers said South Korean tech giants have focused on expanding the production of high-end Ultra HD ones sized 55 inches or wider amid Chinese firms' aggressive investment in the LCD panel sector.

Samsung Display and LG Display took up 26.3 percent and 23.8 percent of the global Ultra HD TV panel market in August, respectively.
