[THE INVESTOR] Homeplus announced on Oct. 13 the appointment of Lim Il-soon as new chief executive.

The first female CEO of the discount retailer replaces Samuel Kim, who has been promoted to vice president for turning it back to black after taking office in January last year.

Lim has experience working for global retailers, including US-based Costco and Australian firm Exego Group.

After joining Homeplus in December 2015, Lim worked as a CFO until July and then took over as COO.

Before entering the retail industry, she worked in Motorola and Compaq Korea.

“Our appointment was made to respond to the fast-changing internal and external management environment,” a company official said.

Lim will be responsible for mainly internal matters by taking care of general operations and management of the company, while Vice President Kim will focus on external partnerships of the company.
