[THE INVESTOR] LG Innotek said Oct. 19 it has joined an international association for the charging of electric vehicles as a core member.

Charging Interface Initiative, or CharIN, is an organization that develops global standards for electric car charging systems and promotes their application. BMW, General Motors, Daimler, Volkswagen, Bosch and Continental are also key members.

“We will be in a better position to further enhance its technological competitiveness and reliability in terms of quality in the EV components market, following this registration as a core member of CharIN,” a LG Innotek spokesperson said.

The company said it expects to further expand its cooperation with major customers of its automotive components.

Electronics component producer LG Innotek jumped into the automotive electronics market in 2005 on growing demand for electric cars in the global market. It has since supplied its electric vehicle components such as electric vehicle charger controllers, battery management systems and motors to global automakers and automotive electronics firms.
