[THE INVESTOR] Kolmar Korea said on Oct. 25 it has partnered with a local research institute to develop a technology that can block out high-energy light and also fend off blue light cited for accelerating skin aging and discoloration.
The company is working with the Korea Institute of Ceramic Engineering and Technology for the technology that can screen out a light spectrum of up to 500 nanometers, its officials said.
Although not coming from the sun, blue light is emitted from much of the gadgets that people use daily, including computers, smartphones and TVs. Like sunlight, it is said to cause aging of the skin.
Sunblocks on the market are effective only up to 400 nanometers, according to Kolmar. The studies under way by the institute allow the enhanced technology to be applied in cosmetics, according to Kolma.
The new technology is expected not to be developed until sometime in the middle of next year since it is entirely new, the company said.
