[THE INVESTOR] Swiss food giant Nestle on Oct. 26 opened a flagship store for its chocolate brand KitKat in Korea in response to growing popularity of the unique flavored chocolates.

The store, located at the Gangnam branch of Shinsegae Department Store in southern Seoul, offers 18 products under its premium line, with flavors ranging from sake and melon with mascarpone cheese to strawberry and matcha, produced by its Japanese unit.

“Nestle decided to open the first KitKat flagship store in Korea by reflecting Korean customers’ needs for new and trendy premium chocolate,” Nestle Korea CEO Erwan Vilfeu said during a press conference in Seoul.

“KitKat will secure its unique difference through this flagship store’s opening, and it will be a good opportunity to increase sales of KitKat retail products in Korea at the same time,“ he said.

The unique flavors were developed by the food giant‘s Japanese unit in collaboration with chef Yasumasa Takagi, the company said.

“Nestle Japan intends to open more stores throughout Asia,” said Cedric Lacroix, managing executive officer of the Confectionery Business Group in Nestle Japan and Korea.

The products will be also available at its online store.
