[THE INVESTOR] LG Display said on Oct. 31 its monthly shipments of OLED TV panels surpassed the 200,000 mark for the first time in September.

The figure marks a twofold increase from a year earlier, according to LG Display. LG Display said the sharp rise in panel shipments came as demand for TVs by major clients, including LG Electronics and Japan-based Sony, increased markedly.

The company said it also expects the figure to reach 210,000 for November.

LG Display said it expects the combined shipments of OLED TV panels to reach 1.7 million units this year, hovering above the industry’s earlier estimate of 1.5 million units.

LG has been promoting OLED TVs as its premium products, which boast improved resolution by having each pixel on the screen emit light. Such products are capable of expressing complete black and vivid color compared with LCD products, which need backlights.
