[THE INVESTOR] Hyundai Motor has hired an ex-BMW platform expert for the overhaul of its luxury lineup, the company said on Oct. 31.
Fayez Abdul Rahman, 58, will join Hyundai Motor to help develop the next-generation platform for Genesis sedans, and other luxury and high-performance models, Hyundai said in a statement.
“I am very impressed by the remarkable progress made by Hyundai Motor Group over the past decade. We want to develop a flexible and future-oriented vehicle architecture that is unique to Hyundai Motor Group, to secure competitiveness, especially in the areas of vehicle performance and quality,” Rahman said.
Hyundai said the expert will take the lead in its planned full-scale innovation in the platform, the basic framework of a vehicle, to help the carmaker develop “world-class” platform capabilities.
The German native began his career at BMW in 1986 and led the platform development for the carmaker‘s flagship 7 sedan series, high-performance M sedan and X series SUV models for the past three decades, it said.
