[THE INVESTOR] Town Life, a utility vehicle business unit owned by the Lamborghini family, is looking to use LG Chemical’s batteries for its new electric vehicles, the Italian carmaker‘s local partner company in Korea said on Nov. 1.

“The company is thinking of using LG batteries for an electric version of Town Life vehicle model,” said Harrison Lee, Green Power Circuit Corporation Korea CFO.

Town Life began partnering with GPCC Korea in 2015 and plans to launch a series of electric vehicles. The two companies are set to launch an electric scooter model by the end of the year and an electric version of small-sized vehicle Town Life in 2019, according to Town Life Chairman Ferruccio Lamborghini during a press conference held in Seoul Tuesday.

For their new electric scooter model to be launched this year, the company has already made an order for 10,000 battery units, Lee said. The battery units will be supplied by a dealership owned by a Chinese pack manufacturer, he added. The name of the battery packer and size of the deal remained undisclosed by the company.

”Town Life and GPCC first need to secure a good amount of sales in the next year to actually talk about a partnership with a battery provider,“ Lee answered, when asked if there is any possibility of making a direct partnership with LG Chemical.

LG Chemical, meanwhile, was unable to confirm the plan.
