Samsung SDS taps Chinese e-commerce market

[THE INVESTOR] Samsung SDS announced on Nov. 21 that it has entered the Chinese e-commerce logistics market having finalized an agreement with Guangzhou Post Office. 

Samsung SDS intends to provide international air delivery and last mile delivery services to consumers.




“We expect the deal to help us grow rapidly as Guangzhou is the largest logistics center in China with an annual cargo traffic volume of 7.3 million tons and is a strategic logistics hub between Shenzhen and Hong Kong,” said an Samsung SDS official. 

The Chinese e-commerce market is forecast to grow by more than 27 percent in 2017. Alibaba’s Singles’ Day sales surpassed 28 trillion won (US$ 25.3 billion), which was a 47 percent increase from last year. In addition the Guangzhou Post Office accounts for 60 percent of China‘s overseas e-commerce transactions.

Samsung SDS also plans to integrate the logistics BPO know-how and price competitiveness it has secured through 52 bases in 33 countries, with the EMS channel of the Guangzhou Post Office. It hopes to expand its e-commerce services in China, North America, Thailand and Malaysia.
