[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics said on Nov. 29 it has started mass production of a system on chip that uses second generation 10-nanometer FinFET process technology.
The Korean tech giant said the SoC, which integrates all components of a computer or other electronic system into a single integrated circuit, will boast far improved performance compared to those produced through first-generation processes.
The company said the new SoC’s energy efficiency is a 15 percent improvement over those made at present. Samsung also said that, as the new process is based on first-generation technology that has already been verified in the industry, mass production can be started immediately.
Samsung said the SoCs will be used to make items for clients starting early next year.
